Hassana and Hussaina have been welcomed back home following their successful separation surgery in Saudi Arabia.

The conjoined twins were welcome home by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday, September 12 after a successful surgery in Saudi Arabia.

The girls arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport with their parents and were received with joy by government officials, community leaders, and representatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The delicate separation took place at the King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh, under the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It lasted 14 hours across nine phases, involving 38 medical experts, including paediatric surgeons and neurospecialists, due to the twins being joined at the lower abdomen, pelvis, and spine.

Saudi Arabia’s Consul General, Khalil Ahmed Al-Admawi, said the surgery was part of the country’s humanitarian efforts, noting that the Saudi Siamese Twins Separation Program has now achieved 65 successful separations over the past 35 years.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who personally welcomed the twins and their parents at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, praised the medical team in Saudi Arabia for their dedication and expertise. He described the successful surgery as a miracle that has brought hope not just to the family, but to the entire Kano community.

The governor assured that the Kano State Government will take full responsibility for the welfare and education of Hassana and Hussaina. According to him, the twins will be placed on a special scholarship programme that will see them through primary, secondary, and even university education.

Governor Yusuf also promised that the state would continue to provide the necessary medical and psychological support for the family. He added that their story serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, international cooperation, and investment in healthcare.
