About 500 angry youths at the weekend lynched a motorcycle operator, Francis Uroh, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Punch reports.

The thief from Amasiri community in the state, had conveyed a passenger to Ehugbo community, which is a nearby town, when someone raised the alarm that he had seen his stolen motorcycle which immediately prompted the youths of the area to beat Uroh to death.

He was immediately hit with various dangerous objects which led to his death. His death was confirmed by the caretaker committee chairman of Afikpo North Local Government, Chief Oko Enyum, who said the youths of Amasiri had mobilised for reprisal attack but for his urgent intervention, which averted their plan.

Reacting to the development in a statement issued in Abakaliki at the weekend, the member representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Iduma Igariwey, condemned the killing.

He regretted that the youths took the law into their hands and blamed them for not reporting to the law enforcement agents.

“Law enforcement agents should arrest and prosecute the suspects. Their action is callous and barbaric,” he said.
