After Guinea lost the chance to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations due to a lack of preparation, Liberian President George Weah has declared his full support for Morocco’s bid.

As a response to “false and misleading, reports making rounds in some international media outlets” that he was backing Algeria’s quest to host the same tournament, President Weah made his position clear.

Instead, he’s shown his “full and strong” support for the Moroccan proposal by emphasising it to the Moroccan authorities.

“Liberia fully endorses and supports Morocco’s bid to host CAF Nations Cup 2025. I have made this commitment to King Mohamed VI. It’s cast in stone,” he declared in a statement obtained by the APA on Friday.

Weah argued that Morocco should be given a chance to organise the most prominent African football festival because of the “remarkable investments” it has made in the sport’s development.

The former FIFA Best Player stated Africa owes it to Morocco to give them the privilege to host the 2025 Nations Cup because Morocco brought so much glory to Africa at the just concluded World Cup in Doha, Qatar.

The president of Liberia has said he has begun pushing for Morocco among African football officials.

Morocco’s application came after CAF revoked Guinea’s ability to host the event.

South Africa and Zambia are competing with Algeria to host the tournament.

Jointly, Nigeria and Benin hope to host the event in 2025.
