Boeing faces a choice, plead guilty to a felony fraud charge for its role in past deadly plane crashes or go to trial, the company has until Friday. Both options are potentially bad. DOJ’s most recent offer would include a fine and a requirement that the company install independent third-party inspectors, but the families want to see people behind bars.
Accepting a plea deal for violating the terms of a 2021 agreement with DOJ would be a black mark and could mean thousands in US job losses. A trial could eventually bankrupt the company.
