UK’s Keir Starmer took £76,000 freebies — FT
The Labour Party leader - and likely next Prime Minister - accepted $144,000 in gifts in entertainment tickets, clothes, and other gifts from donors since the 2019 general election, according to the Financial Times research.
Starmer had promised to “return politics to public service” from what he has called years of Conservative party sleaze; current PM Rishi Sunak declared £140,000 for eight flights on RAF aircraft “for Conservative party business”
Steve Goodrich, head of research and investigations at Transparency International, said that “parliamentarians should ask themselves why they’re being indulged so generously, and what the hidden price tag may be, before accepting such gifts.”
