Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has condemned the detention of 52 students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in Edo State.
The students were arrested for taking part in a protest to express their grievances against the incessant kidnappings in the state.
Reacting, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that the youths must not be criminalised for protesting.
She wrote: "Dialogue not Detention!!!
"Release Detained 52 AAU Students.
"Our youths must not be criminalised for speaking up and protesting about issues that affect their environment, welfare and future.
"The government of Edo state must focus on addressing the concerns of kidnappings as well as other forms of insecurity and not suppressing discerning voices.
"In solidarity, Senator Natasha H Akpoti Uduaghan Concerned Kogi Central for Nigeria."

Some students of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, were arrested and arraigned over protest in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State.
Residents of Ekpoma had embarked on the protest over incessant kidnappings and k!llings.
Many of the students said they were sleeping in their hostels when they were arrested about 3am.
They were driven in a Black Maria van to the court where they were awaiting arraignment.
Their detention has sparked backlash.
