The singer passed away on January 12 after battling a long illness that affected her leg and drew prayers and support from fans and colleagues across the country.

A new disagreement has delayed the burial of gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, as her family and fellow artists have been unable to reach an agreement on the funeral arrangements.
Recall that the singer passed away on January 12 after battling a long illness that affected her leg and drew prayers and support from fans and colleagues across the country.
After her de@th, plans for a full burial programme had been shared by gospel singer Alayo Melody. The schedule included a service of songs, a candle walk and a tribute night at the LTV 8 ground in Ikeja on January 20, with a private burial fixed for the next day.
Those plans were later dropped after a crisis broke out within the family.
Another gospel singer, Lanre Alewilese, later said the issue came from problems inside the family.
Segun Arole, a cleric with the Cherubim and Seraphim Global Network, later spoke about the matter on his TikTok page. He said the artistes who volunteered to handle the burial have now withdrawn after problems over burial dates and poor communication with the family.
According to him, the singers had already spent money on the burial and printed clothes before the disagreement started.
He said the family failed to respond to calls from the organisers, which caused anger and led to the breakdown of the arrangement.
Arole explained that the burial team had earlier met with the family and agreed on a date together, adding that some of the artistes had even paid for the casket and the burial space before everything collapsed.
He appealed to senior gospel and Fuji musicians, including Soji Omotayo, Alayo Melody, Ambrose Shomide, Saheed Osupa and Wasiu Pasuma, to help settle the matter and support the family during this difficult time.
He warned that grudges and anger would not help the situation and urged everyone involved to remember the need for peace and forgiveness.
The family has now fixed a new burial date for Bunmi Akinnaanu. She is expected to be laid to rest on January 28, 2026.
