Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has indicated that the 2027 presidential race could mark his final bid for Nigeria’s highest office, pointing to the increasing political stakes and his years of experience.
During an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday night, he stated, “The stakes are higher because I believe that it will be my last… I think that’s a fact.”
Having contested for the presidency several times, Atiku maintained that his depth of experience and understanding of Nigeria’s political history place him in a strong position to lead at a crucial moment.
“I represent both the past and the future,” he said, adding that while the country has seen leadership from different generations, younger politicians have not consistently met expectations. He stressed that emerging leaders still need guidance and mentorship from more experienced figures.
Reflecting on his time working with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku noted that real governance experience comes from active involvement at the highest levels of leadership.
