As part of its commitment to adequate service delivery, FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited, a subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC in charge of Anambra State, has announced the sale of electricity meters to consumers in the State.

Managing Director of the Company, Mr Okechukwu Okafor, made the announcement while answering questions at a two-day Public Consultation meeting on Draft Electricity Regulations that will shape the Anambra State Electricity market, organized by the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), held at Umuenem hall, Nnewi, on Wednesday.

He said the metres are currently available across its offices in the state.

According to him, a single-phase meter is sold for N124,000, while a two-phase meter is pegged at N207,000.

He noted that the company had earlier informed Traditional rulers and President Generals of all the communities in the state about the development.

It was gathered that the MD made the announcement after a lot of pressure from the member representing Ihiala 2 Constituency at the state house of Assembly, Hon Golden Iloh and other concerned stakeholders from Anambra South Senatorial District, demanding to know why there is total blackout in the zone.

Responding further, Okafor decried illegal tapping of the energy and constant vandalization of it facilities as the major cause of the blackout.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment towards catching up with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a digitalised, livable and prosperous state in Nigeria.

He appealed to concerned residents, especially security agencies, to support the company in the ongoing fight against the electricity theft, arguing that the illegal tamping of it facilities contributes 80 percent cause of the poor electricity supply in the state.
