Lilian Afegbai apologizes after AMVCA outburst

After her strong reaction to being left out of the AMVCA 2026 nominations, Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has issued a heartfelt apology.

In a post shared online, she wrote:

“This apology should have come earlier. That tweet should not have happened. No excuse. It was disrespectful to AMVCA, the nominees, my To Kill A Monkey family, and all of you who have supported me.”

She explained that her disappointment over not being nominated fueled her earlier outburst:

“Honestly, I was disappointed. But that’s not an excuse for how I responded. I’ve come a long way in my journey, and for a long time I felt invisible. To Kill A Monkey felt like my ‘now they see me’ moment, and I held on to that very tightly. When I wasn’t nominated, I reacted from a place of hurt, entitlement and it was out of character for me. I was wrong and I am sorry.”

Afegbai ended on a hopeful note, asking for understanding from her fans:

“Please give me a chance to be better. I no go fall una hand again.

Love,

Forever your Lilly.”
