Victoria Inyama says circumcision is the best thing that shaped her discipline
Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has become the centre of online discussion after revealing details of her childhood experience with female circumcision during a live Instagram conversation with media personality Daddy Freeze.
During the session, the actress reflected on how being raised in her grandmother’s care in a village setting shaped her upbringing and personal values. She explained that the experience, in her view, influenced her sense of discipline and control in relationships.
Speaking openly, she said:
“Yes, I was circumcised. Because I grew up in the village with my grandmother, that is what is helping me. That’s the best thing they did for me. I swear to God because if I say I am not doing, I am not doing,”
She further connected her perspective to how she handles boundaries and romantic situations, insisting it strengthened her resolve in personal decisions.
“And that is the power that I have as a woman, and anybody who tries me, I will give you back. No one can say they saw me in hotels. That’s the best thing my grandmother did for me,” she added.
Her comments have continued to generate mixed reactions, with many people responding differently to her personal reflection on the experience. While some have focused on her individual perspective, others say her remarks raise wider concerns given the global efforts to discourage the practice of female genital mutilation.
