Three persons on Friday lost their lives while four sustained serious injuries in a ghastly motor accident in Adazi-Ani in Anaocha local government area of Anambra state.

The crash, which occurred around 10.30am along the Nnobi–Agulu–Awka road, involved a Mercedes-Benz 608 commercial truck with seven passengers on board.
An eyewitness said the truck somersaulted and crashed into a roadside barricade following loss of control by the driver.
He said the vehicle caught fire, trapping some occupants in the inferno.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, sympathized with the deceased families, wishing the injured victims speedy recovery.
Asekhauno, in a statement by Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe reiterated the Corps’ commitment to prompt emergency response and road safety enforcement across the state.
She said, “Anambra State Sector Command has confirmed a fatal lone road traffic crash that occurred on Friday, July 17, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m near St. Jude Catholic Church, Adazi-Ani, along the Nnobi–Agulu–Awka Road.
“The crash involved a Mercedes-Benz 608 commercial truck with registration number XB270NNL.
“A total of seven male occupants were involved in the crash. Three people lost their lives, while four others sustained serious injuries.
“The FRSC remains committed to protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads and calls residents to make safety their highest priority.
“The Command advised motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to ensure that their vehicles are mechanically sound before embarking on any journey.
“Drivers are also urged to avoid conveying flammable or hazardous materials inside passenger compartments or in unsafe conditions, and to carry out regular vehicle maintenance to prevent mechanical failures that could lead to devastating crashes.”
