Kano Gives ₦200,000, Furniture to Brides in Mass Wedding for 1,500 Couples

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged 1,500 couples participating in the state's 2026 mass wedding programme to build their marriages upon trust, patience, mutual respect, and religious devotion.

The governor delivered this advice during an orientation programme organised by the Kano State Hisbah Board for prospective couples at Coronation Hall, forming part of activities marking the mass wedding initiative.

Represented by the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, the governor characterised marriage as a sacred institution requiring commitment, compassion, and mutual understanding from both partners.

He counselled intending couples to maintain fidelity, exercise tolerance during challenging periods, and resolve disagreements through dialogue rather than conflict, emphasising that successful marriages depend on both spouses fulfilling their respective rights and responsibilities, given that family stability represents a critical foundation for community development.

The governor noted that strong families contribute to peaceful communities, encouraging couples to embrace values promoting domestic harmony and stability.

The orientation programme featured lectures from Islamic scholars and professionals addressing marriage, family responsibilities, and conflict resolution.

Speakers addressed topics including the religious significance of marriage, spousal rights and responsibilities under Islamic principles, and causes of marital disputes alongside conflict resolution approaches.

Additional speakers provided guidance covering legal, social, religious, and health-related dimensions of marriage.

As part of the government's support package, each groom will receive fabric material, a cap, rice, and cooking oil to assist as they begin married life.

Each bride will receive ₦200,000 for dowry and business support, alongside household items including a bed, mattress, wardrobe, mirror, and other domestic essentials.

The mass wedding activities will continue through Sunday, with marriage ceremonies scheduled for Friday at the Central Mosque in Kano metropolis and simultaneously across headquarters of the state's 44 local government areas.

The programme will conclude Sunday with distribution of household furniture and additional support materials to newly married couples.
