A domestic argument in Lokoja, Kogi State, has left a woman injured after her husband reportedly set her on fire.

The man, identified as Jacob Irewa, was arrested by the police following the incident at Oworo Estate, Felele, on Friday, August 14.Law Enforcement.
From the police account, the disagreement started over the woman’s decision to burn some of her husband’s clothes. She reportedly thought he was no longer using them and did so without telling him.
The situation later became more serious. Police said Irewa allegedly thre.atened his wife, took petrol from his motorcycle and used it to set her on fire.
The police said officers attached to the B Division Surveillance Team in Felele were informed about the incident at around 8:30pm and quickly went to the area, where they arrested him.
Police spokesperson ASP Salisu Afusat, in a statement, said:
“On Friday, 14th August 2026, at about 2030 hours, the B Division Surveillance Team, Felele, received a report of the incident and immediately mobilised to the scene, where the suspect was arrested”.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident followed a domestic disagreement after the victim burnt some of the suspect’s clothes, which she believed he was no longer using, without his permission.
“The suspect subsequently threatened her, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and proceeded to set her ablaze”, Afusat said.
Despite the att. ack, Irawo survived and was taken to Honey Gold Hospital in Felele, where she is receiving treatment.
The police said Irewa has also admitted to setting his wife on fire during questioning.
“The suspect, in his statement to the Police, admitted to setting his wife ablaze. The Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and gather further evidence”, the Afusat stated.
