The Osun State Police Command has invited Senator Francis Fadahunsi for questioning over comments he allegedly made at an APC campaign rally in Ilesa ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, has been directed to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
The invitation was contained in a letter dated August 11 and signed by Samuel Erale, the Commissioner of Police responsible for overseeing security during the election.
According to the police, the invitation followed information that the senator made remarks considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during the political gathering.
A video from the rally later circulated online, in which Fadahunsi was heard telling APC supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party if they came across them ahead of the election.
Fadahunsi has since rejected the interpretation that he was encouraging physical attacks. He explained that his statement was political and meant that Accord should be defeated at the polls through votes.
Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command wanted the senator to clarify exactly what he meant by the remarks.
“He has been invited, and when he comes, whatever he says will be made available to the public,” Ojelabi said.
The police spokesperson also dismissed any suggestion that Fadahunsi’s position as a senator prevented the command from inviting him for questioning.
“He is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are not talking about immunity here. Even people not up to his status, we normally write invitation letters to them,” he added.
