A young commercial motorcyclist was reportedly killed by a falling tree on Abak Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, raising concerns about the upkeep of aged and possibly dangerous trees along important roadways in the state capital.
Early on Thursday morning, during a period of heavy rain, the incident took place across from the Cultural Centre.
The motorcyclist was allegedly on his way to start his daily business when he was hit by the tree at around seven in the morning, according to witnesses who spoke to an online report. seen by reports also featured a motorcycle next to a dead man who was lying by a fallen tree.
Tho neither the victim nor the motorcycle were there, the police provided a more circumspect description of the occurrence, stating that they had discovered a fallen tree and information indicating that a biker had been hurt.
When reached by the Akwa Ibom police spokesperson Timfon John, a deputy superintendent of police, stated that patrol officers noticed the fallen tree at around 9:30 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, an unidentified motorcyclist was hurt after riding into the falling tree.

The body was gone when the rescue team arrived at the scene later that afternoon.
While a police officer guided traffic around the roadblock, two guys were observed using pruning machines to split the fallen tree into smaller pieces.
The men told reporters that they were hired by the police to remove the tree from the road.
A decaying tree
The reporters noticed obvious deterioration near the fallen tree's trunk, raising concerns about whether its state might have been determined prior to its collapse.
Witnesses reported that there was no strong wind when the tree fell, despite the fact that it was raining heavily at the time.
The state of the tree is especially remarkable because mature trees with long branches that cross roads and pedestrian zones may be found on a number of Uyo roads.
Similar-aged trees were seen at the site, along sections of Stadium Road, Abak Road, Idoro Road, and Aka Nung Udoe Road.
According to Mfon Udeme, an Abak Road resident who talked with reporters on the spot, the tragedy ought to make authorities take roadside tree care more seriously.
"To help prevent avoidable tragedies, this unfortunate incident is also a reminder for relevant authorities to inspect and properly manage trees along major roads, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and storms," Mr. Udeme stated.
On his official page, journalist Esio Godspeed expressed worries about the state of the trees along some of the city's main thoroughfares.
This is especially upsetting because it cannot be a unique issue. He stated, "Some trees along our major roads have grown dangerously overgrown, with weak or heavy branches hanging over roads and pedestrian routes."
He demanded that hazardous trees be immediately inspected and trimmed, especially those along Abak, Atiku, Idoro, and Stadium roads.
Godspeed stated, "A tree should never become a death trap."
