A disturbing incident involving a young domestic worker has sparked public outrage after authorities intervened and launched an investigation into the alleged abuse.
A woman was arrested in Imo State for reportedly assaulting her 13-year-old domestic helper, causing major injury to her eyes.
The arrest was made public on Thursday by Imo-based writer and activist Chidiebube Okeoma, who stated that he accompanied a team of police officers throughout the operation that resulted in the woman's arrest and the victim's rescue.
Videos uploaded online showed the victim with both eyes badly swollen shut following the alleged assault.
According to Okeoma, the culprit, who is purportedly from Udi in Enugu State, allegedly beat the young woman with a stick, causing major eye injury.
The victim, who is also from Enugu State, has since been taken to a hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment, while police continue their investigation into the incident.
