Reno Omokri said the average Nigerian can survive on about N3,000 a day, citing the prices of basic food items as part of his argument.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, Omokri said he personally checked the prices of common food staples, including yam, rice, maize and fruits. He said he went to the market with a journalist, without security, to get a firsthand look at what people were paying.
“I went there with one journalist, no security, and I stopped along the way, and I priced goods. I priced yam, I priced rice, I priced maize, I priced fruits. In Nigeria, people can live on that amount in a day,” Omokri said.
He spoke about the rising cost of living and the international poverty baseline, stating that the amount can cover the basic daily needs of an average Nigerian based on the prices he found during his market checks.
