ASUBEB Begins 2026 Promotion Interviews, Chairman Charges Teachers on Professional Conduct and Discipline
The Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has commenced its 2026 promotion interview exercise, beginning with teachers on Grade Level 7 seeking promotion to Grade Level 8.
Addressing the candidates at the commencement of the exercise, the Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu, charged teachers to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, integrity and adequate preparedness, stressing that promotion comes with increased responsibility and higher expectations of service.
Dr. Anyadiegwu described teaching as both a profession and a vocation, noting that it requires more than the desire to earn a living. According to her, the profession demands commitment, exemplary conduct and a genuine sense of responsibility towards the education, development and future of the children entrusted to teachers’ care.
She urged the candidates to approach the promotion interview with the seriousness it deserves, emphasising that career advancement should be accompanied by demonstrated competence, diligence, discipline and readiness to take on greater responsibilities.
The ASUBEB Chairman further cautioned teachers against acts of misconduct, negligence and other actions capable of attracting administrative queries. She reminded them that as public officers and custodians of children’s learning and development, they must conduct themselves responsibly, comply with established regulations and remain conscious of the professional standards expected of them.
She also stressed the importance of proper documentation, accountability and adherence to administrative procedures, noting that teachers’ attitudes to work, conduct and commitment to official duties are essential elements of effective service delivery and career progression.
Dr. Anyadiegwu commended the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for his commitment to transforming the education sector, particularly basic education, through policies and interventions aimed at improving access to quality education and creating a more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.
She noted that the administration’s commitment to free basic education and improved school infrastructure and learning facilities reflects its determination to strengthen the foundation of education in the state.
The Chairman urged teachers to reciprocate the government’s efforts through dedication, discipline, improved performance and a renewed commitment to their professional responsibilities. She stressed that the success of the state’s education reforms depends not only on government investment but also on the willingness of teachers to translate these investments into meaningful learning outcomes for children.
She added that the ongoing promotion exercise is part of ASUBEB’s responsibility to sustain a competent, motivated and accountable teaching workforce capable of advancing the state’s basic education objectives and supporting Mr Governor’s vision for educational transformation.
Also addressing the candidates, the ASUBEB Consultant, Lady Stella Ezepue, reinforced the need for appropriate conduct and decorum throughout the interview exercise. She urged the teachers to comport themselves responsibly, maintain discipline and approach the process with the seriousness expected of professionals seeking career advancement.
In her remarks, the Administrative Director of ASUBEB, Mrs. Florence Chinweze, advised the candidates to ensure that all relevant documents required for the interview were complete, properly arranged and readily available for verification.
She emphasised that adequate preparation and compliance with the Board’s administrative requirements would facilitate an orderly, transparent and credible promotion exercise.
The commencement of the 2026 promotion interviews reflects ASUBEB’s continued emphasis on professionalism, discipline, accountability and the development of a teaching workforce equipped to deliver quality basic education across Anambra State.
As the exercise progresses, candidates are expected to demonstrate not only the knowledge and competence required for promotion but also the integrity, preparedness and commitment to duty that define effective teachers and responsible public officers.
