The President of the Senate, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Dist. Sen. Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, led a high-powered delegation comprising National Executives, Zonal Coordinators, State Chairmen, campus stakeholders and students on an extensive inspection tour of critical Federal Government road infrastructure across Anambra State and the South-East geopolitical zone.

The assessment tour was aimed at independently verifying the extent of work, quality of delivery, and standard of execution on ongoing projects under the Federal Ministry of Works.

The NANS team inspected the following strategic corridors:

Across all locations visited, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the level of professionalism exhibited by site engineers and construction firms, as well as the remarkable pace of work. The delegation noted that the quality of materials deployed, road alignment, drainage systems, safety installations and final finishing were consistent with global best practices.

It was further observed that the rehabilitated and dualised corridors are already improving mobility, facilitating trade, easing the movement of students and commuters, and reducing road hazards.

Speaking during the tour, the Senate President applauded the Federal Ministry of Works for maintaining high engineering standards and operational discipline on all project sites. He described the ongoing works as evidence of a government committed to building durable and future-proof infrastructure, and called on the Ministry to maintain the momentum until full completion.

On behalf of the NANS Senate and the entire Nigerian student community, Dist. Sen. Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia passed a vote of confidence on the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Nweze Umahi, for his proactive leadership, consistent field supervision and results-driven approach.

A similar vote of confidence was passed on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering commitment to infrastructural renewal and national development.

NANS particularly lauded President Tinubu for prioritizing these critical economic routes. According to the association, the dualization projects, the Second Niger Bridge Phase 2B, the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway and the Eke/Obinagu flyover transcend mere road construction. They represent strategic investments capable of unlocking economic potential, boosting inter-state commerce, accelerating regional development, and safeguarding the lives of millions of road users, including Nigerian students who depend on these routes for academic and socio-economic activities.

The Association noted that upon completion, these interventions will significantly cut travel time, reduce vehicle maintenance costs, energize local economies along the corridors, and enhance overall safety for residents of the South-East and neighboring states.

The Senate President appreciated all student leaders and comrades who participated in the exercise and charged them to continue to monitor public projects and provide objective feedback. He reaffirmed NANS’ readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government in advancing the nation’s development agenda.
