First Woman In Space Turns 80, And You've Probably Never Heard Of Her
Twenty years before Sally Ride launched into orbit, Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to venture into space.
At 22 she was an expert skydiver and was honorarily inducted into the the Air Force to join as a Cosmonaut. Launching at 26, she still holds a record as the youngest female astronaut/cosmonaut.
