80-Year Old Bites Man To Death In Ebonyi

An Abakaliki Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Nnachi Olughu, on Friday, ordered that an Octogenarian identified as Elder Oko Idam Orim, be remanded in Abakaliki Federal Prison for allegedly biting a man to death.
In a suit numbered MAB/225/ 2017, the 80-year-old accused, arraigned on a one-count of murder, was said to have bitten the deceased named Nkama Idam to death on the 22nd March 2017 in Amuzu Ezeke, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State during a fracas.
It was gathered that the deceased Nkama Idam died two days later in a hospital in the town as a result of the bite.
The charge read thus,”that you Oko Idam Orim ( m ) on the 22nd Day of March 2017 at Amuzu Ezeke Abakaliki in the Abakaliki Magisterial District did gave a human bite to one Nkama Idam (m ) and caused his death and thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 319 (1 )of the Criminal law code cap 33 Vol 1 laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria 2009.”
Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Nnachi Olughu said that the matter was beyond the jurisdiction of the court and ordered that the accused be remanded, while the case file and other Documents be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution for further prosecution.
The matter was adjourned to the 5th of May 2017 for report of compliance.
