I Expected President to Call on Countries Harbouring Looters to Deport Them - Abdullahi tells Buhari
A Public Affairs Analyst, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure deportation of looters of public funds for trial.
Abdullahi, who is also a Fellow, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja.
He was reacting to the President’s address at the 72nd UN General Assembly on Tuesday evening in New York. “I expected Mr President to call on the countries harbouring some fugitives who have stolen Nigerian money to repatriate the fugitives and the funds stolen without further delay in the interest of economic development of Nigeria.
“Even though he (Buhari) commented on war against corruption going on in Nigeria, there is the need now more than ever before to call for international collaboration to fight the cankerworm.
“The President’s condemnation of nuclear armament in North Korea is highly welcome as the country is gradually becoming a threat to the whole world. “The challenge posed by massacre of defenceless civilians of Rohingya in Burma is also a matter commented upon by the President.
“His submission that a powerful delegation of United Nation led by the Security Council should be raised to urgently challenge the fundamental human rights being denied the people of the two Countries is well-thought-out.’’
Abdullahi commended Buhari for giving assurance to the World Leaders on his belief in democracy and democratic process.
“The President should have commented on those violating the rules guiding democratic processes especially in Africa where freedoms were being abused by some disgruntled elements and selfish politicians for political gains which are now leading to political instability.
“This would enable the participants in the General Assembly to appreciate his sacrifice, tolerance and perseverance in the face of hate speeches and incitement as well as attacks on innocent civil populace by some terrorists parading themselves in Nigeria as freedom fighters.’’
