Homeless man who returned $10k check gets big reward

Realtor Roberta Hoskie took to social media to thank Elmer Alvarez for returning the funds in a Facebook video that has since gone viral. Alvarez said he didn’t think twice about returning the money when he discovered the check on Nov. 14, NBC reported.
He wasn’t expecting anything in return for his good deed, but when Hoskie learned Alvarez was homeless she wanted to pay it forward.
“What I did, finding that check and returning it, I would do it all over again,” he said.
The New Haven business owner, who was also homeless at one point, offered him a scholarship to her real estate school, career counseling and a job interview with her business partners, according to the news station.
She also offered him transportation services and training to learn English as a second language, but Hoskie saved her best gift for last.
This winter you don’t have to worry about being in the cold,” she told him. “We have housing for you.”
“Thank god,” he said choking back tears. “I want to say thank you and he makes everything possible you know.”
Hoskie added that the only stipulation was that Alvarez pay it forward in the future too.
“When you get on your feet, you go ahead and you do it for the next person and the next person and the next person and the next person,” she said.
Alvarez responded: “I’m going to go for it.”
