HIV prevalence: Anambra leads in Southeast with 100,429 cases



 Anambra State accounts for the highest number of persons living with HIV in the South-East Region in 2024, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, (NACA) statistics have revealed.



Latest HIV spectrum estimates obtained from NACA contains the statistics for all the states of the federation.


The data puts Anambra in fifth position in the country and first in the region, with 100,429 cases.


Imo is the second in the region with 67,944) followed by Enugu with 61,028, while Abia is among the middle states with 54,655 recorded cases.


With only 14, 151, Ebonyi is among states with the lowest prevalence in Nigeria and also the lowest in the South-East region.


According to the data, over two million people are currently living with HIV across Nigeria.


This highlights the need for sustained efforts in prevention, testing, and access to treatment.
