The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has relocated its members from crisis-prone areas to a safer location in Makurdi, the state capital.

The move followed increased insecurity in Yelwata and Daudu, a situation that  has led to bloody confrontations in the past few days.

Speaking about the development, the NYSC State Coordinator Mrs. Veronica Garba reiterated that the evacuation of the corps members was done in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.

She added that the affected corps members were moved to safe locations, including family homes and corps members association offices in Makurdi.

She affirmed that all those who were evacuated are safe, accounted for, and are receiving good care.

“We understand the anxiety in times like this, but we want to reassure parents that their children are in safe hands.”

“We also ask for continued prayers and spiritual support—it makes a difference.”

She attributed the quick and effective response to the fact that there are new security chiefs in the state, which she termed a welcome move towards the return to peace.

Mrs. Garba also addressed the parents and guardians, stating, “We appreciate the worry during such times, but we want to assure parents that their children are well cared for.

This evacuation follows the footsteps of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Makurdi, where he directed security officials to restore sanity to the affected communities and hold culprits of the violence accountable.

Meanwhile, NYSC assured that it will monitor the situation closely and give utmost priority to the safety of all corps members serving in the state.
