The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has revealed why he was against Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential bid.

Speaking during a media chat held on Monday in Abuja, he stated that he was against Atiku's bid because it's South's turn to produce the president.

“I made it very clear that I was not going to support Atiku Abubakar. I said for equity, fairness, and justice, it was the turn of the South,” Wike said.

He reaffirming his long-held position on power rotation within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike also shed light on internal PDP power tussles, revealing that there had been significant pressure for former Senate President David Mark to be made the party’s National Chairman.

“We refused because he was not going to bring any change to the party,” Wike stated.

Touching on the current political situation in Rivers State, Wike disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is unlikely to extend the emergency rule in the state.

“From my understanding, the President does not want to extend the emergency rule in Rivers State,” he said.
