Labour Party Planning to Rig Anambra Bye-Elections, APGA Raises Alarm
The National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, on Friday accused members of the Labour Party (LP) of being the actual masterminds behind plans to rig the forthcoming bye-elections in Anambra State.
Obigwe made the statement in response to allegations by the Anambra State Labour Party Caucus in the National Assembly, which had accused Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of plotting to deploy non-state security actors and political thugs to manipulate the bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, August 16, in Onitsha North I State Constituency and Anambra South Senatorial District.
In a statement issued Friday, Obigwe dismissed the Labour Party’s accusations as a diversionary tactic, arguing that the party was actually attempting to mask its own premeditated electoral malpractice by pointing fingers at APGA and Governor Soludo.
“It is ironic that the same Labour Party members, who are deeply entrenched in plotting to rig Saturday’s bye-elections, are now turning around to accuse Governor Soludo of such plans. Their scheme is being exposed and frustrated one step at a time, hence the resort to propaganda and baseless accusations,” Obigwe said.
He assured voters that security agencies deployed for the election would act professionally and decisively to prevent any attempts at rigging, adding that those intending to cause chaos would be apprehended and prosecuted.
