Boutique Owner Arrested at Kano Airport After Excreting 127 Wraps of C0caine
The 52-year-old businessman, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Anambra, was arrested on Wednesday.
A boutique owner, Godwin Emeka has been arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
He was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after he allegedly excreted 127 wraps of c0caine.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the 52-year-old businessman, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Anambra, was arrested on Wednesday after arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941.
He said a full-body scan showed that Emeka had ingested substances suspected to be cocaine. “A total of 58 wraps were immediately recovered from his pants before he was placed under observation, during which he excreted another 69 wraps,” Babafemi stated. “Altogether, 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms were recovered”, Punch reported.
In the same statement released on Sunday, Babafemi revealed that NDLEA operatives also intercepted three shipments of illicit drugs at a warehouse in Lagos. One shipment, weighing 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine, was concealed in glass ceramics, while others contained tramadol and pentazocine injections hidden inside vitamin C containers. All were headed to the United Kingdom.
He added that NDLEA officers also stopped attempts to export drugs disguised as black soap tablets to Turkey, cocaine hidden in ladies’ handbags to Australia, and cannabis sealed in herbal containers to the United Arab Emirates.
At the Lagos airport, operatives intercepted 27,510 pills of Rohypnol concealed inside sachets of alcoholic drinks bound for South Africa. Three suspects, including a freight agent and a cab driver, were arrested in connection with the discovery.
In another case, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Uyimwen, was arrested for trying to export 3,700 pills of tramadol and 2,600 tablets of tapentadol hidden in food items. He reportedly admitted he was trafficking the drugs for someone in exchange for €945.
The agency also recorded several arrests across different states. In Edo, a raid led to the recovery of 47 kilograms of skunk from a suspect’s home. In Osun, officers seized over 700 kilograms of the same substance. Arrests were also made in Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna, with hundreds of thousands of tramadol and Exol-5 pills recovered.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended the officers for their professionalism and consistency, urging them to remain steadfast in their efforts against drug trafficking.
