Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, has urged that anyone connected to terrorism be arrested, regardless of their position or status.
The lawmaker made the call on Wednesday during plenary, stating that if his son or any relative is found involved in terrorism, they should be arrested.
Senator Musa expressed concerns over the sudden surge in security challenges facing Nigeria, noting that it “started from one local government, and today it is spreading everywhere.”
“No state is immune. I don’t want politics in this issue, not politics; it is a reality. If my brother, my son, if he is doing this thing, he should be picked. The law should take its course.
“They were arrested with AK-47s and released with AK-47s, no gunshots, no arrest, nothing. And then tomorrow, we wake up to another banditry. Why should it end like that?”
He called on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to stand up to his responsibility of ensuring that Nigerians are safe, pledging that the red chamber will support the leader.
“Mr President, it is on you as our leader to tackle this issue head-on, without any fear or favour. We will stand for you, we voted for you. We should not be here playing politics with the lives of this country. We must own our responsibilities,” he said.
