Nollywood actress Kemi Afolabi has sparked conversation online after calling out Muslims who, according to her, are quick to donate to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) during Ramadan while neglecting struggling members of their own families.

She asked whether those contributing funds to NGOs that provide meals for random people during the holy month have extended the same level of support to widows, unemployed relatives, and other vulnerable individuals within their immediate and extended families.
She wrote: "Did you check up on your family members, hungry neighbors, widow/widower and people who lost their job in ur community to see if they need help with feeding during this Ramadan before donating to random NGO accounts online all in the name of feeding people for Ramadan.

Kemi’s remarks appear to centre on the importance of starting charity at home, especially during Ramadan — a period widely regarded by Muslims as a time for increased generosity, compassion, and support for the less privileged.
While acknowledging the value of organised charitable efforts, she suggested that personal responsibility toward family members in need should not be overlooked.
