It was reported that the strike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, k!lling him along with several members of his security detail.
Iran’s semi-official Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) reported on Sunday that former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was k!lled in what it described as a joint Israeli–U.S. airstrike.
It was reported that the strike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, k!lling him along with several members of his security detail.
International media sources suggested the strike likely occurred late Saturday, though independent confirmation has not been immediately available.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013. Prior to his presidency, he held key positions including governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
Following the completion of his two presidential terms, he was appointed by then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the Expediency Discernment Council, a 48-member advisory body that advises the Office of the Supreme Leader and mediates disputes within Iran’s governing institutions.
This follows the coordinated attacks launched on Saturday by the Israeli military and the United States against targets in Iran.
