18-year old Australian sprinter, Gout breaks Usain Bolt’s record
18-year-old Australian sprinter, Gout Gout produced a remarkable performance on Sunday, running a faster 200m time than sprint legend, Usain Bolt achieved at the same age.
Gout won a national title in Sydney after clocking 19.67 seconds, setting a new world U20 record in the process.
The run also marked his first legal sub-20-second performance, improving on his previous wind-assisted 19.84, and currently stands as the fastest time recorded in the world this year.
The teenager first gained attention in 2024 after running 20.06 seconds, which was then a national record and the fastest ever by a 16-year-old.
His latest feat surpasses Bolt’s 19.93 seconds run in 2004, which the Jamaican sprint icon achieved at 17 and which stood as a world junior record before his rise to global dominance.
