The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has announced that its members will return to work at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday following the suspension of the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

ARD UCH President, Dr Uthman Adedeji, confirmed the resumption in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, stating that the hospital would comply with the national directive.

The nationwide strike had been called by NARD over unresolved issues with the Federal Government, including the reversal of the revised Professional Allowance, payment of outstanding promotion and salary arrears, and release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF).

Dr Adedeji explained that the suspension came after an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting, during which NARD instructed all members, including those at UCH, to resume duties at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The decision followed the Federal Government’s reversal on the professional allowance and its commitment to resolve other pending issues.

He noted that no new patients would be admitted until Wednesday morning to allow doctors to properly hand over current cases to consultants. Stable patients will be discharged, while critical cases may receive extended care if approved by the association’s leadership.

Dr Adedeji emphasized ARD’s dedication to patient care and urged the Federal Government to promptly meet NARD’s demands to prevent further disruptions in the healthcare system.
