Hausa-Yoruba clash in Oyo community
Residents of the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, were thrown into panic on Wednesday following clashes between groups of people in the community.
Reports indicated that the violence involved some members of the Yoruba and Hausa communities, although security authorities had not officially confirmed the details of the incident as of the time of filing this report.
To prevent the situation from getting worse, personnel of Operation Burst, a joint security outfit in Oyo State, were deployed to the area to restore peace and maintain order.
Residents were advised to remain calm, avoid areas affected by the unrest, and wait for official information from security agencies.
There were also reports that a scavengers’ depot popularly known as “Bolla” was set on fire during the clashes. However, the cause of the fire and those responsible for it had not been confirmed.
Authorities are continuing efforts to contain the situation and prevent further violence in the area.
