Speaking during a podcast interview, Franklin recounted a major flood in Lagos in 2018, saying he once returned to his office to find floodwater above the bonnet of his Mercedes-Benz C300.
He said:
“I had left the office in my Prado, but when I returned, the water had already reached the engine level,” he said.
He said the situation worsened when workers returned on Monday and discovered that some people had built on the road, blocking several drainage channels.
Franklin also questioned the effectiveness of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, during which residents are encouraged to clear their drainage channels.
According to him, he has a solution that could help address the problem on a city-wide scale.
“I have something that, if Tokunbo, the commissioner, is ready, I can sit with him and discuss. All the gullies in Lagos will be opened and ensure free flow of water. I have it, it’s a technology,” he said.
