A campaign team for President Tinubu has begun operations in the capital, placing people in mascot costumes at major locations throughout Abuja.
The activity comes after the electoral commission lifted its ban on public campaigns for the 2027 presidential race.
Election rules say political parties can campaign starting 150 days before election day and must stop 24 hours before voting.
Mascots were positioned at busy spots like Beggar Roundabout, City Gate, the Federal Secretariat and the Central Area.
They held banners urging people to re-elect Tinubu, with messages about a stronger economy and a rising nation.
One of the mascots went viral on video after saying he was paid N80,000 to hold the campaign banner.
He added that he'd quit if someone offered him more money, such as N100,000.
A presidential aide shared photos of a mascot with a campaign banner on social media.
The campaign move sparked mixed reactions online.
Some people commented that if the President was performing well, there'd be no need to pay supporters.
Others made jokes, saying they'd do the job for even less money. Some questioned whether the supporters were genuine or just after money.
A few advised the mascot to collect upfront payment and vote according to his conscience instead.
