Anambra State Government issues public safety advisory as downpour intensifies

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, and the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, have jointly issued a public safety advisory following heavy downpour in Anambra State, which has led to massive flooding in different parts of the State.
Earlier, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) identified Anambra State as one of the states at risk of flash flooding, especially between September 21st and September 30th, 2026. Consequently, Nimet predicted that there will be localized flooding, possible power outage, water logging of farmlands, damage to roads, bridges, drain systems, as well as possible increase in the risk of waterborne diseases.
Anambra State Government has called on all residents to be vigilant and take the Nimet forecast more seriously. “Remain vigilant and take Nimet prediction seriously throughout the rainy season,” the Anambra Government strongly advised. The Government also cautions residents to avoid needless movements when it rains. “Avoid unnecessary movements during heavy downpours, whether on foot or by vehicle,” the government cautions firmly. Finally, the Anambra State Government encourages residents to take every measure to ensure their personal safety. “Take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure personal safety, including relocating from flood-prone areas where necessary and seeking help promptly during emergencies.”
