Former Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry is taking legal action after a serious accident during the 2025 Miss Universe event in Thailand.
Former Miss Jamaica Dr Gabrielle Henry has sued the Miss Universe Organisation over a stage fall that caused a brain bleed and other injuries during the 2025 pageant in Thailand.
Henry, an eye doctor in training, filed the lawsuit on September 21 with five claims including negligence and failure to properly hire, retain and supervise staff.
She alleged the organisation inflicted emotional distress on her.
During the competition in Bangkok, Henry followed her rehearsed movements.
She looked at the cameras as instructed, stopped when told, then turned left as directed. In that moment, she fell through an opening in the stage.
Henry lost consciousness during the fall and has no memory of it.
The opening led directly to a concrete base below.
She woke up to see her mother's concerned face before blacking out again.
She suffered a brain bleed, facial injuries and back damage.
Doctors admitted her to intensive care with neurological monitoring.
The fall was recorded and spread widely on social media.
Henry said brain injury is one of the most traumatic experiences she would not wish on anyone.
The injuries have caused severe pain that sometimes prevents sleep and left her fearing her medical career could end.
She said she did not trip and believes the incident could have been prevented with proper safety measures.
Those responsible for the stage and lighting should have ensured protective barriers existed.
Her lawyer said the lawsuit seeks accountability and better safety for future contestants.
The Miss Universe Organisation initially supported Henry while she was in Thailand but has provided little communication about ongoing medical costs since she returned to Jamaica.
The organisation said it has not received the lawsuit and cannot comment on the claims.
It stated Henry's health has always been a priority and that it has not received any request for additional medical expense coverage.
