Jigawa Police Arrest 14 Suspects, Recover Stolen Cattle and Motorcycles

Police in Jigawa State have arrested 14 people and recovered stolen cattle, motorcycles, cable wires and a goat in operations aimed at stopping theft and vandalism across the state.

The police command said the successes came from patrols guided by intelligence tips and help from local vigilante groups and community watch teams.

On September 1, officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf on the roadside near Lautai Village and found three cows inside.

Four men from Abunabo Village were arrested with the vehicle.

During questioning, they admitted the cows were stolen, and the case was handed over for further investigation.

Also that day, police caught a man riding a motorcycle along the Hadejia-Kano Road who couldn't explain how he got it.

The 27-year-old from Yobe State confessed he had stolen it from Niger Republic to sell it in Kano.

On August 31, three teenagers were arrested after they removed and stole security cable worth 700,000 naira from a village.

The cable was recovered.

A few days later, a farmer reported his red motorcycle missing from near his farm.

Police arrested a man from the same area who admitted taking the bike and it was found.

Police also arrested an 18-year-old with stolen cable wire in mid-September.

On September 7, two men were caught with a goat and an unregistered motorcycle they said they owned, but both admitted during questioning that the items were stolen.

On September 4, a motorcycle was found hidden in farmland and returned to its owner after being stolen during a robbery three days earlier.

In another case, police working with a civilian task force arrested a teenager with stolen motorcycle parts.

During investigation the teenager named the person who gave him the parts, who was also arrested, though he claimed he got the motorcycle from a notorious criminal still being hunted.

The police commissioner praised his officers, vigilante members and community watch groups for their work.
