Zamfara Governor Tells Wike to Pick a Side Ahead of 2027

Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal has told Nyesom Wike to clearly choose where he stands politically.
An APC governor has called out FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, telling him to pick a side and stick to it.
Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, made it clear that Wike cannot support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while simultaneously backing other political parties.
Wike, who is a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been linked to the "Rainbow Coalition", a multi-party group formed to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
However, the Progressive Governors Forum (the body representing APC governors) has firmly rejected this coalition, warning that such cross-party deals could actually harm the President's chances.
Speaking in an online interview in New York during the UN General Assembly, Lawal stated that Wike needs to stop straddling the fence.
"Our message is very, very clear: be on one side; you can’t be on two sides," Lawal said.
"If you are in APC, please come out and support the APC, not that you are supporting APC here and you are supporting some other political parties somewhere else."
When asked directly if APC governors are telling Wike to formally join their party, Lawal replied, "Exactly."
Lawal added that he plans to bring up Wike's political status directly with President Tinubu once the President returns from his break in France, saying there needs to be a clear line on where Wike actually belongs.
Despite the pressure, Wike has insisted that his main priority remains securing Tinubu's victory in 2027.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja after inspecting local road projects, the FCT minister denied that the Rainbow Coalition was created to mess with existing political parties.
Still, eyebrows remain raised within the APC, especially as Wike continues to be linked with PDP candidates running for election in states like Imo and Kwara.
