Dr Joe Abah tells husbands to protect their wives

Dr Joe Abah, former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, has advised married men against repeating hurtful comments about their wives made by their sisters or other family members.
In a post on X, Abah said men should correct relatives who speak badly about their wives and stand up for them rather than bring those hurtful comments into their marriages.
Abah’s advice centres on avoiding unnecessary tension between wives and their husbands’ families. He believes that passing along every negative comment can create resentment and make family relationships more difficult.
He urged husbands to defend their wives when relatives disrespect them instead of repeating hurtful remarks that could cause lasting problems in their marriages.
He wrote:
“It is unwise to tell your wife any uncomplimentary thing that your sister or family member says about her. The animosity will never end. Be a man and correct your sister or family member and protect your wife, but she doesn’t need to know”.
