NYSC offers free healthcare to 120 locals in Anambra community
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Anambra State Secretariat has provided free medical services to over 120 residents of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area as part of its third-quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
The outreach, held at Ogidi Town Hall, offered free medical consultations, diagnostic tests and drugs to residents, particularly those who might face financial challenges in accessing essential healthcare services.
Flagging off the exercise, State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Pauline Ojisua reaffirmed the Scheme’s commitment to community development and improved access to basic healthcare at the grassroots.
She said the HIRD programme was designed to bring essential medical services closer to rural and underserved communities, helping beneficiaries access medical attention without the immediate financial burden of consultation fees, diagnostic tests and prescribed medications.
According to her, the outreach also highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and early medical assessment in promoting healthier communities.
“Through the initiative, NYSC Anambra continues to demonstrate how community-focused interventions can complement existing healthcare services and provide practical support to vulnerable residents.
“The exercise reinforces the Scheme’s commitment to community service, social responsibility and improving the wellbeing of host communities across the State,” she added.
Traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom, Igwe (Pharm.) Alex Uzo Onyido pledged community leadership’s involvement in initiatives aimed at promoting public health and residents’ welfare.
Others present at the event were President General of Ogidi Union Nigeria, Mr.Chijioke Ewesiobi and the Secretary General, Dr Emeka Muoemenam.
