A Nigerian lady in Lagos has gone viral after sharing their shock at being charged ₦10,000 for a single cup of tea at a city restaurant.
According to her, she went out for lunch with a friend but decided to order only green tea since she wasn’t particularly hungry.
The tea was served in a pot with a large cup, and she enjoyed it — until the bill arrived.
“My mouth dropped so much I was hoping the people sitting next to me didn’t see that flies were catching my mouth,” she wrote. “What do you mean you boiled water, put two tea bags, and it was ₦10,000?”
Although stunned, she said she had no choice but to pay since she had already consumed the drink.
“I obviously could not argue with them because I drank their tea. There’s no way to give it back. I had to pay,” she added.
The woman humorously noted that the experience has made her more cautious about eating out, joking that she regretted not taking pictures to “use the full value” of her expensive tea moment.
“I should have joined another lady doing a photo shoot. You must use your money and the space well,” she said. “But I didn’t — and that’s how I paid ₦10,000 for tea in Lagos. There’s tea at home. This will not happen again.”
Her account has since stirred wide reactions online, with many Nigerians lamenting the rising cost of dining out in Lagos while others joked that luxury now extends even to hot water and teabags.
