Benue attack: Driver arrested following JAMB candidates abduction
A driver has been arrested following the abduction of passengers, including candidates heading for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, along the Makurdi–Otukpo road in Benue State
The attack involved a bus operated by Benue Links Nigeria Limited, which the company confirmed was not authorised for a night journey.
According to the firm’s Information Officer, Johnson Ehi Daniel, the driver is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the incident.
The vehicle was reportedly ambushed on Wednesday night at Ikobi while conveying passengers. In the aftermath, two of the victims managed to escape, but 13 others are still being held by the kidnappers.
The company disclosed that the driver breached operational guidelines by embarking on the trip without proper clearance, documentation, or approval.
Reacting to the situation, General Manager Alexander Aondohemba Fanafa described the development as distressing, assuring that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of those still in captivity.
