JAMB dismisses 2026 UTME postponement rumours
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected a widely circulated press release claiming that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed, labeling it as false and malicious.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the board urged candidates and the public to ignore the notice.
“Our attention has been drawn to the malicious press release stating that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. The general public, particularly candidates, are hereby informed that this press release is fake and did not originate from us. All activities for the 2026 UTME will continue as scheduled,” the statement read.
JAMB had earlier confirmed that the main 2026 UTME is slated to hold from Thursday, April 16, to Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The clarification comes after the 2026 UTME Mock examination on Saturday, March 28, which faced technical issues at several Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. Out of 224,597 registered candidates, 152,586 were able to complete the mock test at 989 centres nationwide.
“Over 20 CBT centres that experienced technical challenges have been delisted due to inadequacies,” JAMB added.
The board also warned candidates against individuals or groups on WhatsApp claiming to boost scores.
“Such claims are false and criminal. Any candidate found participating in these activities risks cancellation of registration or withholding of results,” the statement said.
