Head, Media and Tactical Ops, NSCDC, Okadigbo Edwin, said the interception followed the arrest of a 46-year-old man, Sunday Ukeh, conveying the product by NSCDC personnel during an intelligence-driven operation

He said the suspect, who was flagged down by the Anti-Vandalism Squad on reasonable suspicion of adulterated petroleum products racketeering, refused to stop and attempted to drive through the personnel, almost running over members of the team.

He said the suspect, from Odume in Awgu LGA of Enugu State, was, however, intercepted at the Military Checkpoint, Amansea after a hot chase, adding that he made an attempt to assault one of the Anti-Vandal personnel.

While parading the suspect over alleged assault on NSCDC personnel during the intelligence-driven operation, State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, cautioned members of the public against obstructing NSCDC personnel from carrying out their legitimate duties.

He stressed that the Command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness or coordinated attacks against its personnel in the course of discharging their lawful duties.

According to him, on Sunday, 26th July 2026 at about 11:00hrs, the Anti-Vandalism Squad headed by CSC Nwosu Christian, while on a proactive operation driven by intelligence, intercepted a truck allegedly laden with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at Amansea, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway Awka.

“The suspect was flagged down by the Anti-Vandalism Squad on reasonable suspicion of adulterated petroleum products racketeering, but he refused to stop and attempted to drive through the personnel, almost running over members of the team.

“A hot chase ensued and the suspect was successfully intercepted at the Military Checkpoint, Amansea. Upon interception, he made an attempt to assault one of the Anti-Vandal personnel ,” he said.

“The suspect was subsequently subdued and taken into custody. Preliminary investigation indicates several discrepancies in the waybill presented by the suspect. Both the truck and the product have been impounded for further investigation.

“The Command categorically states that any person or group of persons who attack its personnel on lawful duty will face the full weight of the law,” the State Commandant warned.

While praising the Anti-Vandalism Squad for their vigilance and professionalism, Maku restated the Command’s commitment to sustaining fight against illegal activities in the petroleum sector in the State.
