Executive Director, Barr. Stanley Okafor stated this shortly after meeting with the Commissioner for Housing Mr. Henry Arize, at the State Secretariat complex, Aroma, Awka.
The meeting deliberated issues centred around the high cost of living spaces for ordinary people in the state, especially within the Awka capital territory, and means of ameliorating the associated hazards.
Okafor also noted that the group would synergise with the state legislature to develop a rent control and regulation bill for consideration by the House of Assembly for passage as law.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for reacting speedily to an earlier letter where the group echoed the dangers currently faced by residents of the state who could no longer find living spaces.
“Mr Governor has consistently shown a tendency to stand with the downtrodden,” he added.
The group, however, expressed dismay that the meeting with the Housing Commissioner failed to draw him in line with regard to agreement on the need for urgent control and regulation of rents, and the curbing of the nuisance created by unlicensed housing agents in the state.
It vowed to continue to support the developmental efforts of the state government, particularly for affordable social housing and rent control law in the State.
