 Kano State Government has announced a public holiday for residents to mark Takutaha, a traditional and religious occasion with deep significance across the state.

Kano State has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a public holiday so residents can celebrate Takutaha, an annual traditional and religious occasion.


The declaration came in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary for Establishment on behalf of the Head of Service and approved by  Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.


Takutaha falls on the 19th of Rabi'ul Awwal in the Islamic calendar and holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for Kano people.


The government described it as an important part of the states Islamic heritage.


The government urged civil servants to use the day for prayers, supplications and spiritual reflection, particularly to seek blessings for peace, unity, stability and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria. Beautypageant coverage


Heads of ministries, departments and agencies were directed to ensure full compliance with the declaration.


Essential services will continue operating as normal.


The government extended wishes for a peaceful and spiritually rewarding celebration to all residents.
