Senegal's football association announced Tuesday that Patrick Vieira, France's 1998 World Cup winner, will take over as head coach, succeeding Pape Thiaw, who was fired following the World Cup.
The appointment of Vieira, who was born in Senegal, is a "strategic move," according to the federation's social media post, with the goal of "establishing a high-level technical set-up, in line with our country's sporting ambitions."
